At the end of April Novasport Racing took their brand-new Audi A1 S1600 out for testing on Estering. It was Andreas’ first real test of the Audi. We came back with some nice pictures and valuable experiences.
It was more than a roll-out, it was a full testing session. Andreas instantly drove fast lap times and got better with every session. New in the team is Jan Becker, a well-known rallycross driver from the past, nowadays more involved in rallying. He is our crew chief, spotter and instructor for Andreas.
Lap by lap was analysed and break points as well the trajectory was optimized. “Being able to drive constantly fast lap times is key. All my opponents in the Super1600 category are constantly testing, testing and testing. In fact, I believe some of them have even driven more kilometers this year that I have in my entire career.”, jokes Andreas Schrader.
Over all, the brand-new Audi A1 S1600 worked perfectly. However, the rear wing protectors have to be enhanced. “All three tested versions did not work at all. The A1 throws with dirt so brutally, we have to add bigger mud flaps and build better protectors for the rear wings.” added Schrader, looking at the destroyed carbon-kevlar parts.
